Types of Los Angeles Liquor Licenses

One of the most competitive places to obtain a liquor license, Los Angeles County requires all businesses that sell or serve alcohol to purchase a permit. Located in Southern California, Los Angeles County is not only the most populated county in the state of California but also the entire United States. The city of Los Angeles, also known as the City of Angels, is the county seat. Often referred to as the entertainment capital of the world, LA County is home to Hollywood. In early summer, the LA County Fair draws a crowd in Pomona, California. Downtown Los Angeles is an economic hub of businesses of all kinds, including restaurants, tech companies, and retail stores.

In order to assist you in your venture to legally provide alcohol to your customers, we offer online Los Angeles County liquor license auctions for the following permit types:

Each California liquor license grants the holder the right to sell in a specific California county, such as Los Angeles. Liquor licenses are not transferable between counties. They are, however, transferable between owners, which means you can legally buy or sell any Los Angeles ABC liquor license.

How to Buy a Los Angeles Liquor License

When searching for a Los Angeles liquor license, there are two paths you can take to secure your alcohol permit. You can either go through a designated liquor license broker such as Liquor License Auctioneers on the open market, or you may choose to go the route of securing your Los Angeles alcohol license through California’s Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (CA ABC).

If you want the process of obtaining a Los Angeles liquor license to go faster, your best bet is purchasing an alcohol permit from a liquor license brokerage. Sometimes your only option will be an alcohol license broker because Los Angeles County has a limited amount of liquor licenses that can be bought or sold. When there are no Los Angeles alcohol permits available, you’ll have to wait for a broker to sell a liquor license directly to you.

Our liquor license experts will assist you with the following eight steps to obtain your Los Angeles liquor license.

  1. Secure the location: Choose a physical brick-and-mortar location for your business that requires an LA liquor license. You must prove that it’s been leased, rented, or purchased.
  2. Select your liquor license: Evaluate the different types of Los Angeles liquor licenses, and pick the one that best aligns with your particular business needs. At this time, choose how you will acquire the alcohol permit - either through the CA ABC or a liquor license broker.
  3. Open your escrow account: The account should be held by a separate company other than the brokerage. An escrow account will be where all the monetary funds are associated with the financial requirements that come with new liquor license ownership.
  4. Survey the location: Set up a contract with Liquor License Auctioneers or a general inspector to come do a detailed survey of the property where alcoholic beverages will be sold or served to customers.
  5. Complete your ABC Application: Then, you’ll send the California Alcoholic Beverage Control application for an alcohol permit over to the CA Department of ABC for approval. We can also complete your ABC application for you.
  6. Post a notice: After review, you’ll be sent a notice from the CA ABC that must be visibly posted from your establishment for a period of 30 days.
  7. Submit to investigation: Following the 30-day time period, a final evaluation will be performed by the CA ABC who will decide if they will issue the Los Angeles liquor license to you at this time.
  8. Receive the liquor license: Once the first seven steps have been completed, assuming the CA government’s Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control has deemed that your business qualifies for an LA liquor license, they will send a physical copy of the alcohol permit to you in the mail. Once received, the Los Angeles liquor license should be properly presented within your establishment.

Completing these prior eight steps will ensure that you’ve met all of the requirements set by the state of California to hold a Los Angeles liquor license. Always be sure to check if your local municipality has additional requirements such as legal stipulations, regulations, and zoning permits or CUP’s. This will help you avoid a delay in the time frame of securing your LA liquor license.
