Types of Nassau County Liquor Licenses

As a business owner in Nassau County, Florida, you must secure a Nassau County alcohol license to sell alcohol legally. In northeast Florida, Nassau County has a population of close to 90,000 residents. Most of these people reside in the county’s largest city, Fernandina Beach, which also happens to be the county seat. Many natives and travelers spend time visiting the Amelia Island Lighthouse and Fort Clinch State Park before choosing a restaurant to grab a bite to eat and an alcoholic beverage to enjoy. The area also draws a crowd each year in October when the Northeast Florida Fair takes place in Callahan, Florida.

Business proprietors must obtain a proper alcohol permit to sell liquor legally, and we offer online Nassau County liquor license auctions for the following permit types:

  • 5COP: Permits restaurants and bars to sell all liquor -- beer, wine, and spirits -- for consumption on-premises in Nassau County.
  • 3APS: Permits liquor stores to sell all liquor -- beer, wine, and spirits -- for consumption off-premises in Nassau County, Florida.

Each Florida liquor license grants the holder the right to sell in a specific Florida county, such as Nassau. Liquor licenses are not transferable between counties. They are, however, transferable between owners, which means you can legally buy or sell any Nassau County alcohol license.

How to Buy a Nassau County Liquor License

In order to acquire an alcohol license in Nassau County, Florida, you must decide whether you will purchase an alcohol permit from the AB&T or if you will go through the secondary market. If you receive one from the open market, you’ll have to use a liquor license broker, like Liquor License Auctioneers, to secure the liquor license in Nassau County.

Often, the only way to purchase an alcohol permit in Nassau County is through the open market due to the limited number of quota alcohol licenses available. A business owner may have to wait for a seller to sell a liquor license to them in Nassau County, FL.

Complete each of the following eight steps to transfer the ownership of a liquor license in Nassau County from a seller to a buyer.

  1. Set a Price for the Liquor License: The seller prices the Nassau County liquor license with the auction fee in mind and makes an offer to sell the alcohol permit to the buyer.
  2. Create a Purchase Agreement: Both the seller and the buyer will sign and date a Purchase Agreement if the buyer accepts the asking price from the seller for the Nassau County alcohol license.
  3. Pay 10% of the Cost of the Liquor License Upfront: The buyer must pay 10% of the total cost of the Nassau County liquor license upfront, placing this amount in an Attorney Trust Account. Then, the closing date for the sale of the alcohol permit will be set. This step removes the alcohol license from the auction.
  4. Prepare the Bill of Sale & All Closing Documents: The seller’s attorney or escrow agent may be of assistance to complete all the forms and documents required for the sale of the Nassau County alcohol license. The forms that must be completed are as follows: The Alcohol Transfer Affidavit, the Closing Documents, the Bill of Sale, and any forms associated with the AB&T Application. When these documents are filled out, the buyer may have their own attorney or escrow agent put them in escrow until the Nassau County liquor license sale is complete.
  5. Seller Pays Transfer Fees: Fees that have accrued during the transfer of the liquor license must be paid by the seller and will be deducted from the earnings at the time of the sale of the Nassau County alcohol permit.
  6. Buyer pays the AB&T Annual License Fee: At the time that the liquor license sale is closed, the prorated annual license fee is due by the buyer. They can have their attorney or escrow agent pay the amount due to the seller’s attorney with a Cashier’s Check, Bank Check, Attorney’s Trust Account, or Bank Wire.
  7. Closing the Bill of Sale: The seller or their escrow agent or attorney will give the buyer the following documents at the time of the sale of the Nassau County alcohol permit: the original Bill of Sale, the Closing Statement, and the Affidavit of Transferor.
  8. Submit Transfer of Liquor License Application Documents to AB&T: The buyer must complete the documents and forms required along with the AB&T Application. They can have their attorney help them complete this step. If the AB&T Application for the Nassau County liquor license is approved, but the business location is not quite ready to sell or serve alcohol, the buyer may put the alcohol permit in escrow with the AB&T. If the business premises have been approved as a place to sell alcohol, then the DBPR AB&T will send a temporary alcohol license for Nassau County.

Use our expert liquor license brokers to help guide you through these eight steps to obtain a liquor license in Nassau County, Florida.

  1. Secure the location: Select where you will sell or serve alcohol to your customers. You must have proof that you’ve purchased, leased, or rented the business establishment.
  2. Select your liquor license: Choose the specific type of alcohol license for Nassau County that you need for your business. Then, decide if you will purchase it from the Department of Business and Professional Regulation Division of Alcoholic Beverages & Tobacco (AB&T) or a liquor license broker like Liquor License Auctioneers on the secondary market.
  3. Survey the location: Hire an inspector to conduct a survey of your business establishment. Our liquor license brokers can complete this step on your behalf.
  4. Complete your AB&T Application: Be sure to complete all the required documents and forms that go along with the AB&T Application. These include submitting fingerprints, obtaining the originating agency identification number, getting zoning approval, paying a fee, completing service agreements, sending a blueprint or sketch of the business location, providing a right of occupancy, gaining Department of Revenue Approval, completing all related-party personal information, getting health and human resources approval, and registering with Florida Division of Corporations.
  5. Submit your AB&T Application: The completed AB&T Application may be sent over to the Nassau County division district office for approval along with the other required documents.
  6. Post the temporary initial license: If a fee was paid during the AB&T Application process, you may receive a temporary liquor license in Nassau County which should be posted at your place of business until you are sent the official alcohol permit.
  7. AB&T Application Review: All the AB&T Application documents and forms will be reviewed and approved by the Division of Alcoholic Beverages & Tobacco (AB&T), and they will add this information to their system.
  8. Submit to investigation: One more survey of your business location must be done, this time by the DBPR AB&T. They will decide if your business premises passes their inspection.
  9. Receive the liquor license: If both the AB&T Application and the inspection have been approved by the Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) Division of Alcoholic Beverages & Tobacco (AB&T), then they will send you a bill to collect payment for the Nassau County alcohol license. Once they receive your payment, the DBPR AB&T will mail you the official Nassau County liquor license, and you must prominently display it at your business.

Fulfilling each of the above nine steps in an efficient manner will satisfy the requirements set by the Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) Division of Alcoholic Beverages & Tobacco (AB&T) to purchase the official liquor license in Nassau County. In order to receive the alcohol permit as soon as possible, we suggest that you also check with your local municipal government to see if there are any additional stipulations that are required to secure a liquor license in Fernandina Beach, FL.
