The Michigan Liquor Control Commission (MLCC) issues over a dozen different types of MI liquor licenses, but we buy and sell the following three most often.
Class C: Possession of a Class C license enables businesses to sell all forms of alcohol (beer, wine, and mixed drinks) for customers to drink on premises.
Specially Designated Distributors (SDD): Retail liquor stores selling all forms of alcohol (beer, wine, and mixed drinks) in their original packages need an MI SDD liquor license.
Tavern: This beer and wine liquor license enable bars and restaurants to sell only beer and wine for customers to drink on-premises.
Each Michigan liquor license grants the holder the right to sell in a specific Michigan county and municipality, but licenses are not transferable between counties. Within the specified county, the liquor license may be transferable between municipalities with the approval of the municipality you wish to transfer to. All MI MLCC liquor licenses are also transferable between owners, which means you can legally buy or sell any MI alcohol license.
