The Arizona Department of Liquor Licenses and Control (DLLC) issues AZ liquor licenses in 21 different “types,” but we see the following three most often.
  • Series 6: The bar liquor license is called Series 6. It authorizes the sale of all alcohol for consumption on premises. Bars can also sell alcohol “to go” for consumption off-site.
  • Series 7: For businesses like restaurants wanting to sell only beer and wine, Series 7 licenses are more appropriate. As long as the beer or wine is sold from within the same area in which it is served for on-site consumption, the business may also sell beer and wine “to go” for consumption off-site.
  • Series 9: The liquor store liquor license, also known as a Series 9 license, allows the sale of all spiritous alcohol in its original package for consumption off-site.
Each Arizona liquor license grants the holder the right to sell in a specific Arizona county and municipality, but licenses are not transferable between counties. Within the specified county, the liquor license may be transferable between municipalities with the approval of the municipality you wish to transfer to. These AZ DLLC liquor licenses are also transferable between owners, which means you can legally buy or sell any AZ alcohol license.
